Open-air bathing in the rain

Rooftop open-air bath in the rain at Ryokan Omori
  • Steam rising from the rooftop open-air bath in the rain
  • Garden-style rooftop bath Roman
  • Hinoki rooftop bath Honoka
  • Indoor baths Rakurakuyu

In Ikaho Onsen, sudden rain is common at this time of year. Some guests tell us they skipped the open-air bath because of the rain. Others say rain in the open-air bath is rather nice.

That is true. Standing in the rain, in the bath, is not something you can easily do at home. At Omori’s rooftop baths Roman and Honoka, at 800 meters, you can. The water is Ikaho’s Shirogane-no-Yu. From garden-style Roman you can see Mount Akagi, Mount Komochi, Mount Onoko, and the Tanigawa range.

Please stay inside if there is thunder.

This season is a good chance to try it. If you prefer a roofed bath, the large indoor baths Rakurakuyu I and Rakurakuyu II are also available. The men’s and women’s sides switch each morning.
